Phila and George Caldwell print and slide collection about Kenya and Antarctica, 1971-1987.

Photographs and slides taken by Phila and George Caldwell on a Los Angeles Natural History Museum collecting expedition to Kenya in 1971, and on a Society Expedition cruise to the Antarctic in 1987. The Kenya material consists of 43 color snap shots (33 3 x 5" and 10 3 x 4" prints), four 35 mm color slides, and a six-page letter to friends sent from the field. The Antarctica material includes 240 colored 35mm slides, a one-page printed itinerary and a printed notebook titled "Project Antarctica" provided by the company running the cruise.

Phila and George Caldwell were well-known philanthropists who supported cultural, educational, and family-support institutions in Southern California. These world travelers were trustees of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and sometimes accompanied Museum staff on collection expeditions.
